If you are interested in good health, the expectation is that you will try to eat a balanced diet, exercise regularly, get enough rest and manage your stress levels.
Most of us here also understand the value of creating.
We know how alive we feel when we sit down with our art supplies. We know how restorative it can be to spend time making our own style of magic, whether that’s with paint, paper, fabric, collage or a gelli plate.
And now, there is growing evidence that creativity may support our wellbeing in even deeper ways. A recent study highlighted NPR by suggests that ‘Engaging with the arts can slow biological aging‘ and support longevity.
Not bad for an afternoon spent playing with paint!
But what happens when you feel creatively blocked… or even afraid to begin?
Recently, I received a comment on one of my YouTube videos that really made me stop and think:
“I love your videos, and I bought all my supplies for gelli printing, but I’m afraid to try it.”
That feeling is far more common than people realise.
- Fear of wasting supplies.
- Fear of making a mess.
- Fear of not being “good enough”.
- Fear of not knowing where to start.
Sometimes the hardest part of creativity is simply allowing yourself permission to play.
So I shared two videos that may help when you are feeling stuck creatively.
Overcoming Creative Blocks with EFT
Three Tried and True Ways to Break Through Creative Blocks
It has never made sense to me that people judge time spent creating as wasted, if nothing “salable” is produced. Since I was a child, I knew that doodling, playing with paint and paper…brought me back to myself like nothing else could.
Thankfully, we have a new justification (not that one is needed) for our creative time…it is part of our beauty routine!
Happy creating!
